CHENNAI: After an impressive start to their ISL campaign,
Chennaiyin FC will look to carry forward their momentum when they face Kerala Blasters in an
Indian Super League encounter at the GMC Stadium in Bambolim on Sunday.
While Chennaiyin bagged three points in their opening game against
Jamshedpur FC, Blasters will be desperate for a win after a loss against Bagan and a draw against NorthEast despite taking an early lead.
On the eve of the match, Chennaiyin coach Csaba Laszlo said that he would continue playing high-intensity football and stick to the winning formula.
"We have to control the game and sometimes, we have to also control ourselves. I think we will continue what we began with. We have our style and we will try to work on our style. We know Blasters well and hopefully we can collect the three points," Laszlo said.
Blasters' coach Kibu Vicuna complained about the league's scheduling saying that his team will play their third match in 10 days whereas Chennaiyin have had two extra days of rest. But Laszlo disagreed that it gave his team an advantage.
"Sometimes the best training sessions are games and this could be an advantage for Kerala, but if you look at the recovery time, we had a little bit more but we will also face less time for recovery in the next games," he added.
But Laszlo agreed that quality Indian players in his side would help him in the long run. "It's true that when you have good Indian players, you can decide a game. It's a sort of an advantage as everybody keeps talking about the foreigners and what qualities they have but as I told before, I have an eye on the Indian talent because they are the future. If you want to have a good league and a good national team, you need to develop this Indian talent," the former Dundee United coach said.
Blasters gave away a 2-0 lead against NorthEast and looked out of ideas in the attacking third. But Vicuna feels that the problem lies in finishing and not in creating chances.
"We saw two different halves in the last game. We controlled the game in the first half. We have to improve in every aspect of the game if we want to log full points against a team like Chennaiyin," he said.
Vicuna tinkered with his team's midfield and attack departments in the first two matches, and with Sahal Abdul Samad and Rahul KP still in doubt due to injury, the rotation could continue.
